Call for applications for ARCUS project 2012 IBARAKI ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE PROGRAMME, Japan. Open to emerging contemporary and visual artists, interested in process-based, community collaborative work. Artist-in-residence program of ARCUS Project which aims to support the artistic activities of emerging artists was launched in 1994 by Ibaraki Prefectural Government as its main organizer. In its 18 years history, ARCUS Project has invited 82 artists from 26 countries / regions, and supported their artistic projects and researches during the residence. A number of previous residency artists are now known as cutting- edge artists in international art scene. Since the year 2010, ARCUS Project artist-in-residence program has focused more on the “process” of activities. Therefore, we are looking for a project which does not regard final presentation as a goal, but tries to conduct a site-specific research / project within a certain period of time. It is also expected that the research / project is open to the local community for sharing the process and collaboration. The proposed projects are supposed to be temporary works with which the applied area can be returned to its original state. Since our program is aimed at promoting international exchanges, applicants should possess national of a country other [...]

MUMA offers a critical perspective on the recent history of contemporary art and culture, dedicated equally to Australian and international art. The residency is an opportunity for artists, designers, architects, theorists and curators to undertake a period of focused work within a university art and design school.
Art communities are using all that they have to shout out their passions and help make Jakarta more “artsy”. However, many of these young artists have to struggle by themselves when it comes to showcasing their creativity. Ade Darmawan, co-founder and director of artist’s initiative Ruangrupa (RURU), said it had never been an easy job for management to find financial backup to organize art events and to keep RURU alive. “Looking for cash money to fund the activities is always hard. Most sponsorship that we managed to garner is usually in the form of barter,” he told The Jakarta Post. When an event was around the corner, the RURU community — either individually or in a group — tried to find extra money from other art projects so they could help chip in for the expenses needed, he said. “We also try to go to private companies to find sponsorship, but mostly to no avail. Soon after we finish our presentation, they are usually not interested in the partnership we are offering, such as no logos on the event banners,” Ade said, adding that there were some companies that had started to agree with the program.
Jade Folawiyo, Designer in residence 2011 – Photo: Luke Hayes The Designers in Residence programme at London’s Design Museum is now seeking applications. This year, designers are invited to respond to a brief set up by museum director Deyan Sudjic and relating to the concept of ‘thrift’: ‘It is more difficult to design a product worth £10 than it is to design the same product worth £1000. The limitations of economy require resourceful, inspired and intelligent use of material and processes and a successful project is often a more creative and fully resolved outcome. We invite product, furniture, graphic, spatial or interaction designers to explore the idea of economy and resourcefulness in an object, an environment or an experience for their Designers in Residence 2012 proposal.’ Applications are accepted from designers who have graduated from Higher Education within the last 5 years and are currently residing in the UK.
